My clients include corporate companies, indie authors, small business owners, and even college students. I proofread and copy edit all types of written content, including business documents, websites, corporate training programs, novels, blog posts, articles, and e-books. I also work on fiction genres including thriller, suspense, mystery, young adult, romance, erotica, and fantasy. Regardless of what type of writing you do, I’m here to make sure your message is expressed as clearly and precisely as you intend it to be. Let’s make your final product shine!

Proofreading and Copy editing

Proofreading

Proofreading is the process of checking a document for grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors. It is the last step in the editorial process, and it is not the same as the actual editing process. As your proofreader, it will be my job to make sure your ideas are communicated clearly and correctly. Mine will be the final set of eyes to look over your content before it goes live to your audience.

A proofreader looks for the following types of errors :

Subject/verb agreement

Typos

Repeated or missing words

Grammar

Punctuation

Spelling

Formatting issues

Copy editing

While proofreading focuses on correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, copy editing includes a more in-depth process. It entails revising written material to improve readability as well as ensuring that the writing is free of grammatical and factual errors. It is not rewriting line by line or creating original content, but rather it’s making simple revisions to help improve awkward sentences and making sure the text flows easily from one sentence to the next.

As a copy editor, my job is to make mostly minor changes and suggestions that will improve the overall quality of your writing. For example, I may suggest different word choices, changes to paragraph structure, or rewording of sentences while always making it a priority to maintain your original voice and style, as I feel it’s important for your story to be told the way you want it to be! I will also correct any grammar or punctuation errors, and I will ensure there is consistency throughout the entire document.

About

Hi there, I’m Kimberly! I have a true love for words that began when I was a child. Throughout my life, my eye always seemed to gravitate naturally to the errors in everything written. After retiring from a long, successful management career, I decided it was time to put my natural talent to use, become a proofreader, and help writers perfect their work. I am a graduate of the rigorous course General Proofreading: Theory and Practice™, and I’ve earned a certificate in copy editing through Poynter Institute. I continue to educate myself in all things writing-related through classes, training, and organization memberships. I also work on Project Gutenberg, a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works.

I’d love to use my enthusiasm for the written word to help make your work shine! Please contact me at KimberlyProofreading@gmail.com, and together we will determine how my services can be of use to you.
